Brief information about Sweden
Sweden is a country with a small population due to its area. ٩ Million people live in a land area of 450,000 square kilometers. Sweden is the fifth largest country in Europe after Russia, Ukraine, France and Spain.
1.3 million Swedes born outside Sweden The largest groups of immigrants from Finland, Iraq and the former Yugoslavia have immigrated to Sweden. Sweden has a population of early inhabitants called the Sami. They live in northern Sweden, and in northern Norway and Finland. Approximately 20,000 Sami live in Sweden.
Sweden 600 is 1 km long and almost half of it is covered by forest. There are 100,000 lakes in Sweden. Sweden’s largest lakes are called “Werner”, “Wtern” and “Mallen”. Sweden is located on the Baltic Sea.
Democracy and monarchy
Sweden is a democracy. The people decide which politicians should run the country. Sweden is also a royal country. A monarch means that a king or queen is the highest authority in the country, not a president. Sweden’s King Carl Gustav XVI has no political power. This point is stated in the constitution. The king and the royal family, instead, represent Sweden in various official ceremonies.
Sweden is a member of the European Union. Sweden has decided not to use the European currency, the euro.
Swedes have the highest coffee consumption in the world after Finland. Sweden also has the largest number of single-person households.
